## Keep a familiar character in the next scene

When a character returns, you want viewers to recognize them. We added character references that carry into generation across scenes, giving the video tools more information about who belongs in your story.

A story with a recurring person asks the viewer to carry that identity from one scene into the next. We worked on references because treating each scene as a separate generation makes that continuity harder to guide, even when the script is talking about the same character throughout.

## References you can use in your own tools

Character operations also joined the developer platform, so creation tools and API inputs can work with the same identity references. Generated results still need a review and an edit where needed; the references help with consistency, but don’t guarantee a perfect match in every scene.

For a creator planning several scenes, the reference becomes something the generation process can carry forward with the story. That gives you a more connected starting point to review, while leaving the final decision about whether the character feels consistent in your hands.
