## Choose the text you want to correct

A TikTok caption can mean the description below a post, a subtitle generated by TikTok, or text embedded in the video itself. Check which one contains the mistake before changing or deleting anything.

## Edit the written description when Edit post is available

- Open your profile in the TikTok mobile app and open the published post.
- Open its More options menu and look for Edit post.
- If the description field is editable, correct the text, hashtags or mentions. Follow any limit displayed by the app.
- Save, reopen the post and check the visible description.

Do not assume that every post has the same options. If the menu or field is unavailable, use the recovery steps below. This guide does not promise a universal seven-day editing window or a fixed number of edits per day.

## Edit TikTok’s auto-generated captions

TikTok documents a separate way to correct its native subtitles: open your video, tap a displayed caption, choose **Edit captions**, make the correction and save. Play the corrected line with sound and check names, numbers and sentence breaks. If the visible words do not open a caption control, they may be part of the uploaded video rather than TikTok’s caption layer.

## What to do when Edit post is missing

- Check the right post and account. Open the original from the account that published it.
- Check for an app update. Reopen the post in the mobile app and inspect the available controls again.
- Read the app’s message. A limit shown for your post is more useful than a fixed deadline quoted by a general guide.
- Use a correction comment for a minor clarification. It adds context without replacing the video, although it does not edit the original description.
- Prepare a replacement for a material error. Check the corrected file and description before deciding whether to remove the old post.

## Correct subtitles burned into the video

Open the source project, correct the caption and export a new version. Keep a clean master without subtitles when you can: it is easier to make another language version or change a caption style later.
