# Podcast clips now frame two, three or four speakers

Milestone: 2026-09-28
Article published: 2026-11-01
Status: Product update

Clip creation now frames podcasts with two to four people: one speaker in focus or a panel per person, with captions moved away from faces. No setup needed.

## Whoever is talking should be on screen

Cutting a vertical clip from a podcast with three people is awkward. Crop on one person and the answer happens off screen. Fit the whole frame into 9:16 and everyone turns into a small face between two black bands.

Since the September 28, 2026 release, clip creation frames conversations with two, three or four people on its own. It looks at who is on screen in each shot and picks the layout from that, the same way [auto reframe](https://blitzreels.com/changelog/reframing-that-moves-with-the-video) follows a single speaker.

## The layouts you’ll see

- One person in the shot: that person fills the vertical frame.
- Two people: a split, one above the other, so the question and the answer are both visible.
- Three or four people: a grid with a panel for each person.
- Recordings where each guest has their own camera box, like a video call, get one panel per box, up to four.

The layout can change inside a clip. When the episode cuts from a wide shot to a close-up, the framing switches with it, so one clip can go from a single face to a split and back.

Picture a roundtable where the host asks a question and two guests answer in turn. A clip can open on the host alone, switch to a grid when the episode cuts to the wide shot, and come back to one face for the punchline, following the cuts already in your edit.

## Captions stay off faces

Split screens cause a new problem for captions: the usual caption position can land right on the face in the lower panel. This release adds a check to both the preview and the export. When a caption would cover a detected face, it moves to free space, usually the seam between two panels.

If no gap is wide enough, the text shrinks slightly. As a last resort, the video scales down a little to leave a separate band for the caption. Captions that were already clear of faces stay exactly where your [caption style](https://blitzreels.com/features/caption-styles) put them. The check uses the faces found by the reframe analysis, so the clips page preview and the exported MP4 place captions the same way.

## Nothing to set up

There’s no layout to pick when you create clips. Auto reframe is on by default, and the framing happens while the clips are made:

1. Click “Clip a long video” and paste the episode link or upload the recording.
2. Keep Auto reframe on.
3. Generate clips and review them on the clips page.

Your time goes to the choices that need you, like which moments to post or how to tighten the hook. Our page on [podcast and interview clips](https://blitzreels.com/use-cases/clips) has more ideas for [YouTube Shorts](https://blitzreels.com/use-cases/youtube-shorts) and other feeds.

## Limits

- The framing needs a landscape source and a vertical or square output, like the rest of auto reframe.
- It’s built for two to four people. Larger groups aren’t covered by this release.
- The analysis decides shot by shot. When it isn’t confident, it keeps a safer framing instead of forcing a split.
- Clips you exported before September 28 don’t change. New clips from the same episode use the updated analysis.
- Turn Auto reframe off and every shot gets one fixed center crop, which cuts off people sitting side by side.

## Questions

### Can BlitzReels make vertical clips from a podcast with three or four people?

Yes. With Auto reframe on, clip creation frames conversations with two to four people, showing one speaker in focus or a panel for each person depending on who is on screen.

### Do I need to choose a split-screen layout for podcast clips?

No. The layout is picked automatically during clip creation, shot by shot, whenever Auto reframe is on.

### Will captions cover my guests’ faces?

BlitzReels checks caption placement against detected faces. A caption that would cover one moves to free space, often the seam between panels, and captions that are already clear keep their position.

### Does it work with remote recordings where everyone has their own camera box?

Yes, for up to four boxes. Each person gets their own panel in the vertical clip.

### What happens to clips I exported before this update?

They stay as they are. New clips you create from the same episode get the new framing.

## Turn your next podcast episode into clips

Paste the episode link or upload the recording, keep Auto reframe on, and check how each speaker is framed.
