# A vertical video layout for screen tutorials

Keep the screen and presenter together in a vertical clip. Choose a tutorial layout through the CLI or API, with screen-to-presenter proportions available in the API.

## Keep the demonstration in the picture

A screen tutorial needs room for what’s being shown as well as the person explaining it. We added a stacked tutorial layout to place the screen and presenter together in a vertical clip, with an arrangement suited to a demo.

We worked on a separate layout because the subject of a tutorial is often the action on the screen. Giving all the space to the presenter can lose the demonstration, while leaving the presenter out can lose the person guiding you through it; the stacked arrangement gives both a defined place.

## Choose the layout through the CLI or API

The CLI and API let you request a tutorial layout. The public API also lets you choose how much of the frame goes to the screen and presenter. Small text and busy screens still need a careful preview on a phone; a vertical layout can’t make every detail of a desktop screen readable.

For a short demo, those controls let you work with the screen and speaker together rather than asking one crop to cover both. Before export, check whether someone watching on a phone can follow the action being explained at the size it appears in the clip.
