Why does an iPhone MOV fail to open?

MOV is a container. The video inside may be HEVC, H.264 or another codec. This converter needs browser support for the source codec, then exports H.264 MP4 with AAC sound.

Does it keep video orientation and audio?

A copied H.264 MOV keeps existing rotation metadata and audio. HEVC re-encodes to H.264 with AAC and bakes rotation into the frames. If a track cannot be preserved, it reports an error instead of offering an incomplete file.

What if my browser cannot decode the MOV?

Try a browser and device that can play the original. On a Mac, QuickTime Player can export using Greater Compatibility (H.264). For future iPhone recordings, Most Compatible in Camera Formats uses H.264.

Is conversion lossless?

H.264 MOV files are copied into MP4, so quality stays the same. HEVC and other codecs are re-encoded to H.264, which can change detail and color. Keep the original, especially for HDR or editing masters.

Is there a file-size limit?

Each file must be 512 MB or smaller. Large or high-resolution files need more memory; try a shorter export if the browser runs out of resources.

If your MOV video will not convert

Try playing the original on the same device. If it fails, changing the filename will not repair it.
On a Mac, open it in QuickTime Player, choose File → Export As, then Greater Compatibility (H.264).
For future iPhone recordings, Camera → Formats → Most Compatible records H.264. This does not convert recordings you already have.
Keep the original and compare sound, orientation, color and brightness in the exported file.
